Studio Ghibli completists will definitely be interested in this -- "Short Short", a complete collection of all the odds and ends (commercials, music videos) that Ghibli has created over the years, from 1992 to 2005. Included in this 42 minute collection are shorts directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Yoshifumi Kondou, Yoshiyuki Momose, Osamu Tanabe, Shinji Hashimoto, and Takeshi Inamura, and feature not only new characters, but familiar characters from Totoro, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, and more. The styles of the shorts vary as well, sometimes simple, sometimes rich, and sometimes experimental, these 42 minutes are fascinating animation from start to finish. Presented in chronological order and presented in full frame or letterbox where appropriate, we'll see commercials for Lawsons (a convenience store chain), their advertisement for the the Ghibli Museum, and the excellent House Curry commercials, which capture the feeling of Japan during the Showa era. Of particular interest to Ghibli fans are the music videos -- the very rare "On Your Mark" (aka "Castles in the Sky") video by Chage & Aska presented here on DVD for the first time (this video also has an English track and full English subtitles) directed by Miyazaki himself. Other music videos are the futuristic trio of stories by Yasutaka Nakada ("Portable Airport" "Space Station No.9" and "Floating City Planning") and the singalong by Meiko Haigou, "The 'Which? Which?" Song". A special bonus is the accompanying booklet that describes all the pieces along with storyboards and other information. Finally all the odds and ends of the Ghibli world are available on one convenient DVD. Region 2, 2.0 & 5.1ch Dolby (where applicable), full frame and letterbox where applicable.

The long wait for Hayao Miyazaki's anime masterpiece is over, with the excellent 2-disc release of My Neighbor Totoro. A wonderful film about a magical discovery of two girls, Totoro is filled with incredibly and memorable characters -- the magical Totoro, the unforgettable Neko-bus (cat bus), and more.

A fantastic DVD release from Studio Ghibli and Buena Vista Japan, this release includes both the original Japanese version and the English-dubbed, as well English subtitles, so you can enjoy the film any way you wish. It comes with many extras, too, such as the complete storyboard history of the film viewable with the multi angle button on your DVD controller, four different original movie trailers, an alternate opening and closing to the movie, and a documentary on the new Miyazaki Museum that recently opened in Japan.

This is the menu for disc 1.Options are, on the left side, View film, Chapter, and on the right side, Sound options, and Subtitle options.

This is the Tokuten (Extras) Disc menu. Options are, View movie (storyboard version), Film trailers for Totoro, Alternate opening and closings, and the documentary on the new Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo.

My Neighbor Totoro is one of the most classic and successful Japanese anime movies of all time, and helped make Hayao Miyazaki and international star as a director. You can now own the classic on DVD, meticulously transferred by the staff of Ghibli.

You can enjoy the film either with English subtitles, or the full English version, whichever you prefer.

On the Extras disc, you can view the film in storyboard mode, a great way to get insight on the movie and the director.

One of the questions we get asked at J-List a lot is, "I want to start learning Japanese, what book do you recommend?" Most textbooks are entirely dry, uninteresting, and cannot follow a student's pace, leaving students frustrated. However, a new series by The Japan Times has recently taken Japanese language for foreigners by storm, and comes highly recommended by anyone who has taken it -- Genki, An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese. The entire course has 23 lessons, guiding the student from the beginning until the student has mastered elementary grammar and can read not only hiragana and katakana but over 300 of the most commonly used kanji as well.

Each lesson has: 1) a dialogue introducing vocabulary and grammar in a situation the student may find familiar; 2) a list of the vocabulary with hiragana, katakana, kanji and English meaning; 3) grammar with full explanations in English; 4) interesting usage notes; 5) several pages of practice questions designed to be fun and interesting incorporating dialogue skills, writing skills, and thinking skills; 6) additional vocabulary. Each lesson also has a complementary lesson in hiragana/katakana/kanji, with reading and writing exercises. The separate workbook has more writing exercises and kanji writing practice. This is simply the recommended textbook for anyone beginning Japanese up to 3rd level in the JLPT.

THIS BOOK: This book is the answer key book containing all the answers to both Genki I and Genki II, for both the workbook and textbook. All the exercises are answered here, with page numbers corresponding to their place in the Genki workbooks and textbooks. Furthermore, this book contains the complete transcriptions to the listening sections of the workbook. This is a necessary companion for those doing self-study with the Genki workbook/textbook for those who want to check their answers by themselves. 7" x 10" (18 x 25.5 cm) 72 pages, card cover perfectbound.

THIS CD SET: This is the students CD set for those studying with the textbook (PB888) and the workbook (PB890) for part I of the Genki series (lessons 1 to 12). This is a highly recommended purchase as it is excellent listening practice necessary for training your ears for the Japanese language, as well as practicing your own Japanese speaking. There are two CDs in this set: Disk 1 (73:35) covers the dialogue and vocabulary in the textbook -- read along with the dialogue and repeat the vocabulary. Disk 2 (40:50) has exercises for the listening comprehension questions in the workbook, suitable for testing your hearing and listening abilities. These 2 CDs are housed in a clam-shell case and contain a guide as to which track pertains to which page in the textbook or the workbook.
