A great Studio Ghibli film available for the first time on DVD, this is Heisei Tanuki Gassen, or "Raccoon Wars" in English.
When a clan of tanuki (a small dog in Asia similar to a Raccoon, called a Raccoon Dog) is threatened with the destruction of their home and possible extinction, they fight back using everything from magic to their wits to stop the humans from invading. But how does a small group of mammals stop bulldozers or construction men many more times their size? It's a fierce battle and both sides are not without their losses. Humorous, heartwarming, and heart-breaking enjoy this Hayao Miyazaki-produced Studio Ghibli gem by Isao Takahata. Playing time for the feature film is 119 minutes. Because this 2-DVD set features full subtitles in English and French, it's great for fans outside of Japan who want to enjoy Mr. Miyazaki's films!
This is the menu for disc 1.Options are, on the left side, View film, Chapter, and on the right side, Sound options, and Subtitle options.
This is the Tokuten (Extras) Disc menu. Options are, View movie (storyboard version), Film trailers for Totoro, Alternate opening and closings, enjoy a Japanese comedy about the magical animals called Tanuki.
Like all the Studio Ghibli DVD productions, the transfer is absolutely perfect, and there are many extras for fans who want to know more about Hayao Miyazaki's works. This film is especially good for foreign fans of Japanese animation as it's filled with many interesting and traditional themes.
You can enjoy the film either with English, French or Japanese subtitles.
