The newest craze in Japan is this device from Tomy Takara that allows you to make fresh, delicious caramel using ingredients from your supermarket and a standard microwave oven! You can make different types of caramels, too -- there's no limit to what you can do with this amazing device.

To make some caramels, prepare the following: milk (50 cc/1/5 of a cup), fresh cream (the same amount), granulated sugar (20 grams), a cup measure, a scale for measuring weight, a rubber spatula, a knife, wax paper, and a microwave running at 500 or 600 watts. (If using a 1000 watt microwave, please use a lower power setting.)

In the included red pot, add the milk, sugar and fresh cream, then attach the large lid and L-shaped red stirring arm so that the contents of the bowl will be mixed around when you rotate the lid. Heat for 2 minutes, then take it out, using the handles to avoid burning yourself. Turn the lid ten times so that the contents are stirred by the L-shaped red arm underneath. Next, heat for 3 minutes. Again, take the bowl out and turn the lid ten rotations, stirring the contents. Heat a final time for 1 minute, then remove. Carefully look at the caramel mix to see if it's the proper caramel color; if too light, heat again, but be careful to avoid burning it.

When the caramel mix is semi-liquified and can be spread with a rubber spatula, spread it inside a tray with wax paper inserted to keep it from sticking to the pan. Let cool for ten minutes, then put it in the freezer for an hour to harden.

There are several other fun kinds of caramels you can make, like green tea caramels by adding matcha powder or cocoa powder. It's fun to make with your kids, too!

The gorgeous Summer 2008 edition of Megami Creators magazine is here! More than just a magazine, Megammi Creators is really an artbook in disguise. Released quarterly, each issue features the work of many of Japan's top moe artists and illustrators, presented in handsome perfect-bound format - no staples here, great for archival collection. This issue features a special summer "swimsuit" theme, including work from popular bishoujo game artists and doujinshi creators like Iruma Kamiri (Hellabunna), Mizunezumi, Tartan Check, Fuyuno Haruaki, and Takamichi. There's also an exclusive sneak preview of the new Itou Noiji bishoujo game "Flyable Heart" - she's the designer of Haruhi Suzumiya and Shakugan no Shana, so this is one you don't want to miss! There's more - along with the regular features of several other bishoujo artists there's a full profile with gallery of the works of Shimada Fumikane, famous for his creation of Konami's "Mechamusume" girl/vehicle moe hybrid illustrations, as well as Sky Girls and Strike Witches. Original art from him you'll only be able to see in this issue, so it's a must for fans. Wondering what Macross Frontier (Macross F) mech girls would look like? This issue's special large poster will tell you, with a great Valkyrie / school swimsuit girl hybrid illustration from moe master Komatsu Eiji. The other side has an original swimsuit-clad beauty from Bekkankou, the artist of Fortune Arterial and Yoake Mae Yori Ruri-Iro Na. A super extra poster you'll want to put up in your room! All in all a highly recommended item for fans of all things bishoujo and more. Supplement your Megami life with this must-have high quality collector's magazine!

Some magazines exist to bring you information, others to present opinions. All are commercial enterprises, which presumably means they are trying to make money for their investors. Apparently, though, Megumi exists only to lose money by giving it all away in the form of fabulous gifts to its readership. Each issue of Megami Magazine ("the Anime & Bishoujo Game Character information magazine") features tons and tons of free stuff, including wonderful posters (there are *13* two-sided color posters in vol. 11, in front of me), telephone cards, punch out "character stands," stickers and more. The quality of printing and artwork in this wonderful magazine, which focuses on cute girls from anime and bishoujo games, cannot be overstated. You can expect to get your fill of such popular anime/game series as Clannad, Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya, Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, School Days, Evangelion, Sekirei, Kanokon, Ikki Tousen, Da Capo II, Gunslinger Girls, Girls Avenue, K-On (Keion), Strike Witches, Zero no Tsukaima, To Love-ru, and more -- you will not be let down by this amazing magazine at all. A fantastic magazine, which J-List is proud to bring you, begin your subscription now!

This magazine subscription can be purchased on a revolving basis (where we'll reserve and bill each issue as it comes in) or annually (for a flat fee w/ SAL shipping included).
