| Many of us are familiar with the city scape and beauty of Japan, brave towering buildings reaching for the sky, temples with their simple aesthetic to bring people to peaceful thoughts, and the streets filled with neon lights to attract the wandering eye. However, few of us know the Japan that isn't meant to be seen -- the underground constructions that are made to keep Japan running, without trying to appeal to any aesthetic, just simple function. But to be sure, there are amazing sights to be seen underneath the concrete, and photographer Hideaki Uchiyama brings them to us, his camera giving us sights unseen and giving the dark corners special intriguing beauty. This is an incredible photobook with large pages, something to stir the imaginations of anyone who picks up this 135 page full color hardcover coffee table book. For photography fans and for anyone who has ever held a curiosity of Japan. In his third volume, Hideaki once again explores the vast underworld of Japan finding beauty and wonder where the light of the sun never shines. Again, this book carries a lot of power, including: underground laboratories where scientists study artificial organs on goats and pigs; a vegetable factory deep under Tokyo that produces some incredibly ripe and nutritious tomatoes; a bunker in Yokohama used to issue orders for attack during WWII now populated by swarms of giant house centipedes; an 11 km long evacuation tunnel underneath a mountain and much more. An index in the back describes the locations in both English and Japanese (bilingual) including impressions by Hideaki. 13" x 10".

But to be sure, there are amazing sights to be seen underneath the concrete, and photographer Hideaki Uchiyama brings them to us, his camera giving us sights unseen and giving the dark corners special intriguing beauty. From corridors of pipes amid lights, to old tunnels used for movement of troops during the war, ventilation shafts, subway lines both forgotten and those under construction, man-sized icicles in a huge refrigerator... all powerful images from below the ground that the general public will never see. It's hard to imagine that these are not sets from some cyberpunk sci-fi movie but real constructions with a practical purpose. This is an incredible photobook with large pages, something to stir the imaginations of anyone who picks up this 160 page full color hardcover coffee table book. For photography fans and for anyone who has ever held a curiosity of Japan. An index in the back has explanations in Japanese where the photos are taken from which are just as amazing as the photos themselves. 13" x 10".

Again, this book carries a lot of power, including: the inside of the Bentenshu, a memorial for unborn children which houses their remains; a sewage trunk line that reminds Hideaki of a "futuristic prison"; a WWII underground trench where thousands of soldiers lost their live and now inhabited by Venus fly traps; an underground pond 50m deep which houses recognizable light and much more. An index in the back describes the locations in both English and Japanese (bilingual) including impressions by Hideaki. 13" x 10".

| Anyone who has ever seen Tokyo and has seen the wave upon wave of crowds might have a hard time imagining Tokyo being a continuously crowded city out of their heads. Even when the word "Tokyo" is heard, we think of impenetrable crowds, backed up traffic... it is unthinkable of a Tokyo that isn't filled with people, which makes this photobook by Masataka Nakano all the more startling. In these photos, we are presented with a Tokyo few people have seen--a Tokyo where the streets are deserted, where a single human being cannot be seen. Page after page we are treated to cityscapes where we feel we should see someone--from the classy shopping district of Ginza, to the bustling nightlife district of Roppongi to just outside Shinjuku Station, considered the busiest train station in the world and nary a soul to be seen. Instead we are treated to a Tokyo without people, and one can't help but feel an eerie loneliness when looking at this book. An incredible photobook that is not only a look at one of the most interesting cities in the world but also presented in a new way that few have seen. 10.5" x 8" Softcover, perfectbound, a great coffee table item!

| Although a fantastic photobook in and of itself, author Kasako shows you the limitless potential this book beholds. A fantastic inspirational piece for designers and photographers a like it covers two bases, the limitless potential of creativity and the relaxing slice of life in Japan that you'll enjoy. Over 600 photos that are categorized into several sections, back alleys, movie theaters, housing complexes, old shops, sign boards, street shopping and more! A great photobook for anyone. As an extra bonus, the book contains a section showing how the photographer creates a futuristic world similar to Blade Runner using images of dilapidated Japanese cities using Photoshop. Great for fans of haikyo / run down Japanese places.
