For those who have already mastered katakana and hiragana are already diving into the deep waters of kanji, good reference materials are difficult to find. For those seeking additional challenge in their Japanese studies are best to use books without English in them, as they provide a learning environment that forces the student to learn the language on its own terms. Particularly useful is this new series of books aimed at younger Japanese students from Sanseido. With many colorful illustrations to help show meaning, and with all kanji with appropriate furigana to aid lookup, these books are invaluable to adult learners of Japanese as well.

This is the Japanese Language Dictionary, created in an interesting way to make it readable and lively. Each one of the 1200 words that are included contain the reading with kanji, explained meaning, and examples, and many have illustrations to match. The vocabulary focus is not on nouns but on verbs, adverbs and adjectives which require more explanation, although there are appendixes which look at body parts, family members, "koko soko asoko," counters, grammar and more. With words that have several meanings, several examples are given to help clarity. An excellent dictionary for those interested in powering up their vocabulary entirely in Japanese. Perfectbound, 8.25" x 10". 263 pages, full color. Recommended Level: high-beginner to advanced, contains no English and no romaji, students must be able to read hiragana and katakana.

Manga (comics) is a piece of Japanese culture that the Japanese can proudly boast about, not only because of their fantastic work, but their ability to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. Shonen Ace and Ultra Jump are among the two most popular publications that bring you the latest and greatest adventure stories for hungry readers to consume. J-List is happy to add to their list of publications, Comic Yuri Hime, a delightful publication that caters to the female crowd. Published quarterly, it features around 15 - 20 stories with a central focus on Yuri or female relationships (such as the story "Nana" for example). Stories range from fantasy to modern pieces with romantic nuances to add a light feminine touch to your reading. A great inspirational piece in both illustration and story work that both guys and gals will enjoy, all in a telephone book thick format. Each issue is approximately 300 - 400 pages in length with a mixture of full color and black and white illustrations. Also makes a great study item, immersing you into real vocabulary used in typical Japanese conversations rather than the formulaic dry textbooks you'll constantly exposed to. Note: while these yuri manga explore female/female romantic relationships, there is no adult content in Yuri Hime.

This magazine subscription can be purchased on a revolving basis (billed monthly or as each issue comes in) or annually (for a flat fee w/ SAL shipping included).

The Shin Chan anime is currently taking America by storm with its dirty humor and wild anime illustration style. Crayon Shin Chan was re-produced and customized with new voice actors and editing for an older US audience in 2006. Now it's soaking up the attention via Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming section. For those interested in the origins of Shin Chan, the story takes in Saitama Prefecture, the neighboring prefecture to Gunma, where J-List is located. We've got an excellent set of soundrops featuring the original Japanese voice actors from the series, so now you have another enjoyable way to study Japanese -- you can learn lines from the original Japanese anime! (But please just don't tell your Japanese teacher we told you that). This set features 8 wild Shin Chan sound clips including: 1) Ho Hooi, Ora Shinosuke da zo! - Hey Heyy! I'm Shinchan!, 2) Iya ~ sore hodo de mo - I don't deserve it (bashfully), 3) Zousan, Zousan - An Elephant! An Elephant!, 4) Oi, naka naka yaimasu na - Oh WOW good JOB! (sarcastic), 5) Action beam! / Wa ha haaa! (random), 6) Ketsu dake seijin zuibui! - The outer space ASS monster!, 7) [Shin-chan's Mother]: Obaka! Nagen kotsu on! - Idiot! [hits Shin-can on head], 8) Taai! [Shin-chan's sister's baby talk]. There's a ball chain attached to each soundrop too so you can hook them to your bag or link them on to your keychain. This purchase is for the complete set of all 8 soundrops.

The year 2000. Kasumi Shindo is at first glance a run-of-the-mill high school student in modern-day Japan. However, beneath his normal appearance, Kasumi is in fact a top-notch treasure hunter. This time, Kasumi is aiming to seek out the lost 11th Commandment of Moses. Kasumi discovers that his childhood friend, Reina Tachibana is in southern Europe participating in an archeological dig. Pretending to be a tourist, he visits the excavation area and manages to get put on the excavation staff. But he is not the only treasure hunter looking for the Eleventh Commandment of Moses and before he knows it, he's embroiled in a dangerous adventure.

Vol.2 -Past-

1200 BC A time when God was still demonstrating his powers and making his presence felt to those in the world and people lived simply in small communal groups. One of these hamlets was that of Will Arc. But when the village chieftain Martha refuses to be sacrificed to God, she throws the future of the village into uncertainty. When Martha realizes that she is at death's door, she leaves her son, the Great Swordsman ALES with her last wish before passing away. In order to convey Martha's final words, ALES strikes out alone on a quest for Will, a girl known as "The Song of God".

Vol.3 -Future-

The year 13,800 A.D. Due to an apocalypse that ravaged the entire earth several centuries earlier, humans have been relegated to the position of an endangered species on blighted land. Only a small sliver of green is left, the acidic oceans are aflame and the blue skies remain no more. The earth cannot even produce sustenance for people to survive. Sui was raised the daughter of a florist in City Gilde, but on her 18th birthday things suddenly shift and her peaceful, if poor, life is thrown into turmoil. A sudden coup d’etat occurs and fatally injured in the fray, her surrogate mother, Nene, relays to her a shocking message with her dying words - Sui is actually the last surviving member of the royal family and a princess heir to the throne. So Sui sets out on a journey with Laliela to take the Key of Will bequeathed to her by Nene to the Sage U.

This game is rated U-15, and is recommend for ages 15 and up.

Kasumi Shindo. This 18-year old is a high school student but has a second identity, that of a top treasure hunter. He is seeking the " Eleventh Commandments of Moses". Convinced that ruins discovered on an island in the south of Europe are home to this find, he decides to make a trek there. Learning that a friend form his childhood, Reina Tachibana, whose family he once lived with, is working on an excavation team there he concocts a plan to visit under the pretense of being a tourist.
Ai Tachibana. Reina's younger sister and Kasumi's bride to be as arranged by their parents, Ai pretends that she detests the idea of marrying Kasumi, but in fact she is really crazy about him. Ai decides to use her summer vacation to help her sister on the excavation and is initially excited about seeing Kasumi after a gap of ten years, but once they meet they can't seem to keep from fighting with each other.
Reina Tachibana. Ai's older sister and a professor of Archeology at a university in England, Reina is in charge of the excavation team. While suffering and sometimes unreliable due to a lack of common sense, she brings to her work, a wealth of specialized knowledge. She detests treasure hunters and the way they ravage the culturally valuable ruins, but hasn't yet clued into Kasumi's true identity.
Arglelech. An up and coming treasure hunter who has recently reared his head. In contrast to his chosen profession, he is not especially attached to money and does not appear to be very aware of the stigma of being a treasure hunter. It seems that in his past somewhere lies a connection with Kasumi.

Ales. A swordsman of such skill that his name spreads far beyond his own hamlet. He harbors serious doubts that the "Will of God" is not what makes people suffer. To discover the truth for himself, he sets out on a journey alone. A man of strong moral fiber and unflagging courage, he soon gains a group of steadfast companions. Aqua. A strange young girl encountered in Plen Arc, she is in actuality, one of God's four mediums. By all appearances, she is merely a child, but in reality is older than ALES and talks as if she were an adult. She takes an interest in ALES and decides to help him under certain conditions.
Will. Lives in Plen Arc. She is a member of "Song of God" and tasked with the duty of conveying the will of God to people through dance. God called to her, but because she defied him, the oracles have decimated Plen Arc. When ALES arrives in Plen Arc, she has gone missing. The question is whether she perished with the city, or... Quake. A man that lives in the seaside hamlet of Sea Arc also happens to be an oracle. Normally living a quiet life with the fishermen of Sea Arc, QUAKE cuts a bold figure and has a personality that leaves an impression. Despite appearances, he is also a man of deep reflection and possesses a wealth of knowledge. A certain incident drives him to join forces in taking action with ALES.

Sui. Raised as the daughter of a florist, on her 18th birthday a coup d'etat occurs and she is told by her surrogate mother, Nene, that she is the last member of the royal family. But because of the coup d'etat, she is unable to ascend to the thrown and Nene is killed by the conspirators behind the political takeover. Bequeathed the "Key of Will" with which she has been entrusted, she sets off on a journey with Laliela to see that it is delivered to the Sage U. Laliela. Laliela is Nene's sister, but she has been raised with Sui since she was a child. Laliela knows that Sui is the royal princess and she was raised as her bodyguard cum maid-in-waiting. She is truly an incredible fighter. She does not wear her heart on her sleeve and takes a cool attitude to all encounters, but begins to change as she journeys with Sui.
Titi. Titi lives in Towngilde and has taken over for her missing father, a scientist of great renown. Following in his footsteps, Titi is in charge of overseeing the Imperial office program in charge of demystifying the technologies used in the hyper-advanced science savvy civilizations of antiquity with an eye to opening up the technologies to the public. After meeting Sui, Titi decides to depart on her journey with her. Tazta. A young man living in Village Gilde. Though young, he is independent and proud of this. There is nothing he despises more than being treated like a child. While looking for his sister that he lost contact with in the old capital, he falls for Laliela the instant he sees her and joins up with Sui and company, deciding to journey with them.
