| You may think of Japan as a modern country with advanced technology, and it is, but it's also got its older, dilapidated side as buildings fall out of use and become haikyo, or modern ruins. Photographer Tetsuro Kobayashi, searches brings us an awesome second volume of old, run down buildings. This super photobook captures some of the best, including power plants, factories, old bars, train stations, plus the king of haikyo in Japan, Gunkan-jima, the so-called "Battleship Island" which housed a small city of coal miners before it was abruptly closed down in the 1950s. Perfect bound, 130 pages. 9" x 7.5".

The story of Princess Nausicaa and her battle to save her people from the political maneuvering of Kushana of Torumekia, who seeks to destroy the insects using the forbidden technology of the past, it is a classic Miyazaki story in every respect, and captures his grand vision and imagination. The long wait for one of Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki's most famous and best-ever works is over, with the release of Laputa Castle in the Sky on DVD. A superb film made in 1986, just as Mr. Miyazaki was beginning his climb to international fame as the leading anime creator in Japan, it tells the fascinating story of Pazu and Sheeta and their search for the fabled floating city of Laputa, the remnant of an ancient civilization.
A fantastic DVD release from Studio Ghibli and Buena Vista Japan, this includes both the original Japanese version and the English-dubbed, as well English subtitles, so you can enjoy the film any way you wish. It comes with many extras, too, such as the complete storyboard history of the film viewable with the multi angle button on your DVD controller, four different original movie trailers, an alternate opening and closing to the movie, and more. NOTE: the English dub is the one made in 1989 for JAL, not the Disney-produced release. Both orignal Japanese and optional English voice as well as optional English subtitles are supported.

This is the menu for disc 1.Options are, on the left side, View film, Chapter, and on the right side, Sound options, and Subtitle options.
On the left side is the Tokuten (Extras) Disc menu. Options are, View movie (storyboard version), Film trailers, Alternate opening and closings, and a collage of the opening intermixed with storyboard artwork that is very cool.
Laputa is one of the most well-written and animated films to come out of Japan in the 1980s, and it left its mark on the face of the anime world in general. A beautifully-imaged fictional world that was ruled in ages past by the people of Laputa, a race possessing incredible technology. Centuries after their passing, the race is on to locate the hidden Floating Castle and use its technology once again.
You can enjoy the film either with English subtitles, or the full English version, whichever you prefer.
On the Extras disc, you can view the film in storyboard mode, a great way to get insight on the movie and the director.
Laputa is one of the most famous anime movies from Japan, and we're very happy that it's available on this excellent 2-DVD set, with a very high quality transfer and full Dolby sound. Get this great DVD today!
