| A wacky new T-shirt from J-List, this features the famous Ryoma Sakamoto, one of the most respected founders of modern Japan, who embraced modernizing the country's outmoded institutions after the arrival of Commodore Perry's "Black Ships." (He was famous for being the samurai who wore Western boots.) This T-shirts puts a cool 'fro on Ryoma's head, and displays the slogan he embraced, "Wakon Yosai," translatable as "Japanese Spirit, Western Technology," which pretty much sums up the last 150 years of Japan. The word "wakon" is an abbreviated kanji word that also means "yamato-damashii" (Japanese spirit). We guarantee many laughs whenever a Japanese person sees this shirt! Standard U.S. size T-shirt in olive green, available in S. Please note, this is a close out item to make more room for new designs. Limited sizes are available so grab yours while you can. Sorry all sales final. (SZS)

The long wait for one of Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki's most famous and best-ever works is over, with the release of Laputa Castle in the Sky on DVD. A superb film made in 1986, just as Mr. Miyazaki was beginning his climb to international fame as the leading anime creator in Japan, it tells the fascinating story of Pazu and Sheeta and their search for the fabled floating city of Laputa, the remnant of an ancient civilization.
A fantastic DVD release from Studio Ghibli and Buena Vista Japan, this includes both the original Japanese version and the English-dubbed, as well English subtitles, so you can enjoy the film any way you wish. It comes with many extras, too, such as the complete storyboard history of the film viewable with the multi angle button on your DVD controller, four different original movie trailers, an alternate opening and closing to the movie, and more

This is the menu for disc 1.Options are, on the left side, View film, Chapter, and on the right side, Sound options, and Subtitle options.
On the left side is the Tokuten (Extras) Disc menu. Options are, View movie (storyboard version), Film trailers, Alternate opening and closings, and a collage of the opening intermixed with storyboard artwork that is very cool.
Laputa is one of the most well-written and animated films to come out of Japan in the 1980s, and it left its mark on the face of the anime world in general. A beautifully-imaged fictional world that was ruled in ages past by the people of Laputa, a race possessing incredible technology. Centuries after their passing, the race is on to locate the hidden Floating Castle and use its technology once again.
You can enjoy the film either with English subtitles, or the full English version, whichever you prefer.
On the Extras disc, you can view the film in storyboard mode, a great way to get insight on the movie and the director.
Laputa is one of the most famous anime movies from Japan, and we're very happy that it's available on this excellent 2-DVD set, with a very high quality transfer and full Dolby sound. Get this great DVD today!

| A staggering achievement of animation, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa) is the film that made director Hayao Miyazaki into what he is today: the premier Japanese creator of animation. A thousand years in the future, the remnants of humanity struggle for survival against the giant insects of the Sea of Corruption. The story of Princess Nausicaa and her battle to save her people from the political maneuvering of Kushana of Torumekia, who seeks to destroy the insects using the forbidden technology of the past, it is a classic Miyazaki story in every respect, and captures his grand vision and imagination. After years of waiting, it's finally available on DVD! The 2-disc DVD release features full optional English subtitles, and it includes many extras provided by the director, including audio commentary, theatrical trailers, a full storyboard version of the film, and teasers. Please note that this DVD is region 2, a Japanese release but with full optional English subtitles -- you will need to play it in a region free DVD player or your computer if you're in the U.S. Also please note that this is the legal, legitimate product produced by Mr. Miyazaki himself, not a Taiwanese bootleg. |
