| Beginning kanji study needn't be difficult -- this new series by Alc (who also produce the only monthly magazine for Japanese language study directed at students, the Nihongo Journal) allows us to master the essentials of kanji, covering levels 4 and 3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, with only 15 minutes of practice a day! Each lesson contains 6 kanji. Each kanji is introduced with onyomi and kunyomi (the Chinese and Japanese pronunciations. Each kanji also has sample words made with that kanji along with sample sentences to practice understanding and reading in context. Finally, the writing of the kanji is shown (with stroke order) and you are given space to practice writing the kanji. In the second section of the book are short quizzes that test your understanding, and an answer key and index are included. The two volumes together help you learn 555 kanji, and translations are given in English, Chinese and Korean as well. An excellent way to learn kanji -- in small daily doses kanji practice is incredibly manageable and fun at the same time without getting over your head, and if you practice every day, within 3 months you will have a mastery over the kanji necessary for the two lower levels of the JLPT as well as a head start on 2nd level kanji. This purchase is for Volume One (Jou), the first half of this course. 190 pages, perfectbound. Mastering Japanese kanji is essential to success in learning the Japanese language. Learning kanji is not only important to be able to read and write the Japanese language, but it is also important in order to proceed to advance levels of study. The reason why is that you will have great difficultly finding upper level textbooks and other courseware that continue to use romaji and kana to indicate the readings of kanji.
White Rabbit Press' top-selling Japanese Kanji Flashcards have helped thousands of Japanese language learners, in as many as 23 countries, master Japanese kanji. For just a few cents per card, our meticulously designed and researched cards save you countless hours by bringing together all the information you need to master Japanese kanji in a convenient flashcard format to make study and drills as efficient as possible.
Each White Rabbit Press kanji flashcard includes six commonly used kanji compounds -- that's more than any other product -- because we believe that the essence of a kanji is best grasped by understanding the meanings it forms when combined with other characters. Our cards also include the kanji's on and kun readings, stroke order diagrams, look-alike kanji, the reading of each example word in kana scripts with definitions in English, and more.
Additionally, White Rabbit Press kanji cards are the only kanji cards on the market that provide complete preparation for the kanji portion of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
Quality Construction Cards are poker-size, 3.5" x 2.5" (8.89 cm x 6.35 cm), printed on UV coated card stock with rounded-corners for increased durability.

| One of the questions we get asked at J-List a lot is, "I want to start learning Japanese, what book do you recommend?" Most textbooks are entirely dry, uninteresting, and cannot follow a student's pace, leaving students frustrated. However, a new series by The Japan Times has recently taken Japanese language for foreigners by storm, and comes highly recommended by anyone who has taken it -- Genki, An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese. The entire course has 23 lessons, guiding the student from the beginning until the student has mastered elementary grammar and can read not only hiragana and katakana but over 300 of the most commonly used kanji as well. Each lesson has: 1) a dialogue introducing vocabulary and grammar in a situation the student may find familiar; 2) a list of the vocabulary with hiragana, katakana, kanji and English meaning; 3) grammar with full explanations in English; 4) interesting usage notes; 5) several pages of practice questions designed to be fun and interesting incorporating dialogue skills, writing skills, and thinking skills; 6) additional vocabulary. | How to use grammar in Japanese has always been a difficult part of learning the language, as subtle nuances between phrases can have a dramatic impact on meaning. When can you use a specific grammar? How do you use it? This book is meant to address these questions by grouping grammar expressions by type of usage, so that you can compare the situations the phrases are used and understand when and how to use them. Each chapter addresses a particular situation and the various phrases used at that time and the nuances that exist between them. Starting with a short quiz, you can test your knowledge of the barious patterns before studying to see where your weak points are. Explanations are given in Japanese, English and Chinese, with lots of examples to help you understand. Finally a quiz tests your understanding of the various grammatical patterns. This book has twenty chapters each with a particular situation in mind, and various grammatical points that can be used. Also of note are "mini chapters" that look at important grammatical points that are especially tricky for beginners, including the difference between "wa" and "ga", "a~" "so~" and "ko~", and more. An index of the various grammatical structures is at the end. An excellent book for studying Japanese grammar, especially for those looking to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 3 (JLPT). From Alc Press, 238 pages, perfectbound. 7.25" x 10.25". Recommended Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate; or studying for level 3 on the JLPT. | PB965 A Practical Guide To Mimetic Expressions Through Pictures ~ E De Wakaru Giongo Gitaigo |
This item is in stock in Japan. Weight: 300 g. Price: $22.00
Product type: Small Photobook
(What is this?)

| One of the most difficult things to master in Japanese are mimetic expressions, e.g. onomatopoeia, words that mimick voices, sounds or states, for example "iraira" (a feeling of irritation), "buubuu" (the sound of griping or complaining), or "girigiri" (very close, with little time/space to spare). If one can master these expressions, one's ability to express oneself in the language increases greatly and will sound more natural. This book features these expressions, divided by theme with illustrations and exercises to improve understanding. Each chapter presents a number of related phrases with examples of their useage as well as an illustration. A short quiz follows to test your understanding. The end of the book has a 6 page test to see how well you understand what you have learned, and an index in the back is excellent for reference. This 136 page book is a highly recommended textbook for those looking to improve their word power in Japanese. 5" x 7", by Akutsu Satoru, a writer for Nihongo Journal. Recommeded Level: Intermediate or those looking to tale Level 2 of the JLPT, not recommended for beginners as there is no romaji and requires the ability to read katakana, hiragana, and JLPT Level 2 kanji. | One common question for those studying Japanese is "What is the best dictionary"? There are many different dictionaries, each one made for a specific purpose in mind, but none more comprehensive and powerful as the Kenkyusha Daijiten. One of the oldest (first published in 1928) and certainly the most authoritative, this is the English-Japanese version, recently revamped in 2002 to include additions in lexography due to recent advances in information and technology. Including all English from Shakespeare to the IT age, this Sixth Edition, edited by Shigeru Takebayashi, this 2890 page book contains over 260,000 entries attempts to include as many English words as possible, including medical and scientific terms -- it will be a daunting task to find an English word that is not translated in this book. Considered to be THE reference book for scholars and translators, this dictionary is intended for those who already have some knowledge of kanji, looking to expand their word useage out of the common and everyday. A huge hardcover book, this is 8.25" x 11" and 3" thick, and comes in a protective cardboard sleeve. Please note: although we can send this to you via your preferred method of shipping, we highly recommend shipping via EMS. Recommended Level JLPT 2 and up. Japanese is not only a difficult language to master, it becomes even more so when working in a typically Japanese office which is much more rule-oriented than normal conversation. With the level of formality changing constantly depending on exactly who they're talking to, and with certain expressions used only in very specific situations, it is a challenge for Japanese and non-Japanese alike. Saying the wrong thing can potentially have disastrous consequences, and there isn't much leeway given for non-native speakers to make errors. To become a success in the Japanese business world, it is important to know the rules, which this textbook from ALC was prepared to help with. This textbook contains 12 lessons, each with sample dialogue, quizzes, vocabulary, usage notes, and practice, on such topics such as starting and ending meetings, making presentations, business phone calls, corporate parties and more. Of great help is an essential list of 122 words to know in a business environment to help build your business vocabulary. This book can be used in conjunction with an intermediate or intermediate-advanced level course or used as a course on its own. An essential book for those looking to improve their Japanese ability to blend in seamlessly in a corporate or business environment. 170 pages.
