| A wacky new T-shirt from J-List, this features the famous Ryoma Sakamoto, one of the most respected founders of modern Japan, who embraced modernizing the country's outmoded institutions after the arrival of Commodore Perry's "Black Ships." (He was famous for being the samurai who wore Western boots.) This T-shirts puts a cool 'fro on Ryoma's head, and displays the slogan he embraced, "Wakon Yosai," translatable as "Japanese Spirit, Western Technology," which pretty much sums up the last 150 years of Japan. The word "wakon" is an abbreviated kanji word that also means "yamato-damashii" (Japanese spirit). We guarantee many laughs whenever a Japanese person sees this shirt!
