Kokeshi were first made in the northern provinces of Japan about 150 years ago. Kokeshi were originally made by farmers as toys for children. As the countryside developed, kokeshi also developed into a modern craft. These days kokeshi are recognized as a traditional folk art in Japan and treasured by both young and old around the world. J-List is proud to present these very high quality kokeshi dolls which are handmade by skilled craftsmen from start to finish. This is a set of four very cute ellipsoid-shaped kokeshi, each representing one of the four seasons, beautifully carved and decorated with a wonderfully colorful design. About 1.5 inches tall each.
